The essence
of bird friendly glass
Architects are eager to use large glazing in the design of houses, public facilities or multi-storey commercial buildings. At the same time, such solutions pose a danger to birds, which are often unable to recognize glass as an obstacle, leading to collisions. It is estimated that millions of birds die each year from glass strikes - both in commercial and residential buildings.
To increase the safety of birds in the urban areas, products known as Bird Friendly Glass have been developed. Products in this category (e.g., printed glass, interlayers with reflective elements, special coatings) represent a safe compromise between increasing urbanization involving large facade glazing and bird protection. Bird Friendly solutions has special elements that are recognizable to birds, and at the same time blend in with the architectural elements without disturbing the aesthetics.

Digitally printed glass can be used for both decorative and functional purposes. The partially opaque glass panes allow a controlled flow of light into the interior and the visible pattern acts as a barrier to birds, preventing them from hitting the glass.

Saflex FlySafe 3D
Saflex FlySafe 3D is a special Bird Friendly film with visual elements (sequins) dedicated to laminated glass. The special regular pattern reduces the risk of bird collisions with glazing.
To fulfill its impact protection function, the Saflex FlySafe 3D film interlayer should be placed as close as possible to the outside of the facade. The silver sequins on the Saflex FlySafe 3D interlayer should face outward. For insulated glass units, it is best to place the laminate in an exterior position directly exposed to daylight, with the silver sequins facing outward.
Saflex FlySafe 3D has applications as an exterior component of a double (DGU) or triple (TGU) insulated glass unit package with Saflex FlySafe 3D PVB film inside the laminate and solar control coatings applied at position #4. Saflex FlySafe 3D film is compatible with other films from this manufacturer.
Trosifol BirdSecure Pro 90/6
Trosifol BirdSecure Pro 90/6 is a film used in laminated glass, using a discreet spot print on Trosifol UltraClear film.
Thanks to its low coverage area (approx. 0.4%), the pattern blends discreetly into the glazing, remaining invisible to the human eye from a distance of 3 meters or more, while achieving a very high level of bird collision protection (14%), as confirmed by the American Bird Conservancy Tunnel Test.
To fulfill its impact protection function, the Trosifol BirdSecure film laminate should be placed as close as possible to the outside of the glazing.
AviSafe is a glass whose special patterned coating, enhances the reflection of UV radiation, causing disruption of light reflections and thus becomes visible to birds. In order for AviSafe glass to fulfill its function of protecting against bird collisions, it should be used in position one in insulated glass units.
Ornilux Mikado oHT is a minimalist UV reflexive coating inspired by the structure of a spider web. It is almost invisible to the human eye, but perfectly visible to birds due to its ability to reflect UV radiation.
